November 25th Marked the Statehood Day of Bosnia and Herzegovina
On November 25th in Mrkonjic Grad it was marked and celebrated the statehood day of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Much like any other national holiday in Bosnia it was only marked and recognized by half of the country. In the Bosnian Federation, the Sunday and Monday are recognized as non-working days, while in Republic of Serbia (RS) these days are not recognized. This day marks the session that was held by the anti Fascist Council for the freedom of Bosnia and Herzegovina (ZAVNOBiH) in which was announced the statehood of Bosnia and Herzegovina nearly 69 years ago after Bosnia became free from the Nazis during the WWII.
During the session held on November 25th 1943, it was requested by ZAVONBiH from the country which wasn’t Serbian, Muslim or Croatian at that time to form a country in which a fraternal community will exist where it will provide equality for all Serbs, Muslims and Croats.
By confirming the historical boundaries that dated back to the time of medieval Bosnia, Bosnia then became one of six equal republics in former Yugoslavia. History would repeat it self 49 years later, as BiH statehood was restored 20th May 1992 in front of the UN headquarters on the East River in New York where the flag of Bosnia and Herzegovina was first set.
Hacking the Non-Supporter
Due to the lack of support from RS, on this special day, a group that presents itself as a BH Anonymous hacked the site of Serbian President Milorad Dodik. While coming upon this piece of information, we at ZA VAS learned that Mr. Dodik had a website. Who would have thought? Certainly something that was foreign to us before or maybe because it’s simply not publicly advertised. The hackers went on to proudly display the Bosnian coat of arms as the background with a message that read, “We know you wanted to congratulate too”, signed by Ivica and Marica or the translated in English – Hansel and Gratel.
Open Invite
Mrkonjić City is a city that’s openly part of Bosnia and Herzegovina and everyone knows that ZAVNOBiH held it’s session in the city dating back to 1943. Due to this special occasion most Serbian and Republic of Serbia authorities were invited to attend the ceremonies – none attended the event. The invite further sent a message to the authorities, the Republic of Serbia and other Bosnian state governments, that the museum that marks this national holiday should be renewed. The idea behind the message is that the museum should be the responsibility of the authorities of Bosnia and Herzegovina, not an entity. Since the war that ended in 1995 the museum has been under the authority of RS, and the local authorities haven’t done anything on its renewal.
